The borough is located in the south-eastern parts of the city and is the second most populated district of Oslo with over 40,000 inhabitants. Nordstrand is one of the wealthiest districts in Oslo, and net incomes, real estate prices, and life expectancy are among the city's highest. Nordstrand is also known for its beautiful view of the Oslofjord.
The name of the borough is after a house named Nordstranden, located at Mosseveien 196.
