:This is highly dubious and outrageous claim to put it very mildly. The only occasions where Field ex post facto "corroborated" Massing's allegation were his statements from interrogation by Hungarian communist secret police and his self-exculpatory "autobiography" for Hungarian communist authorities where he was trying to portray himself as always loyal communist dedicated to collaboration with Soviet Union. In any other known statement related to Hiss case and Massing allegation on Hiss, public as well as private, which was made under non-coercive conditions, Field was confirming Hiss's story and innocence. Hede Massing on the ather hand was pretty much under thumb of FBI and her testimony at Hiss trial should be taken with great dose of scepticism, which of course Weinstein-Tanenhaus-Haynes's Whittaker-Chambers-Is-Our-Light school of history completely (and deliberately) lacks. |

Massing's party talk with Hiss
Since Massing's Hiss trial testimony is public record and a significant part of her notability, it should be included in her page. The wording might need a little work though. Anybody interested in cleaning up the presentation? TMLutas (talk) 01:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- Noel Field always denied this, but it is now certain that he simply lied.
- This is highly dubious and outrageous claim to put it very mildly.

Economical with the truth
It seems Mrs Massing had been a bit economical with the truth in 1950. An exhaustive german book on the Noel Field affair shows that the Massings worked with Soviet intelligence untill the end or the war. (Barth, Bernd Rainer and Werner Schweizer, Der Fall Noel Barth, 2 Vols., Berlin: Basis Druck publishers, 2005, 2006). --Radh (talk) 16:06, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Hede Masing was questioned by the FBI at first in connection with the extensive investigation of her first husband, Gerhard Eisler. Both Massings began to reveal their own activities more or less voluntarily (see the Field vols.) and then only very slowly. They named important names only after Chambers and Russians had given them away or only after these people were safe in Switzerland etc..--Radh (talk) 06:35, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
