KC Concepcion (born Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion on April 7, 1985) is a Filipina actress and singer who is currently a National Ambassador Against Hunger of the UN's World Food Programme.
Biography
Family
The only daughter of Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta, KC was estranged from her father for thirteen years following their annulment and his immigration to the United States in 1995.[1] KC was legally adopted by Senator Kiko Pangilinan following the marriage of Pangilinan and Cuneta. She has younger half-sisters from both her mother's and father's subsequent relationships: Simone Francesca Emmanuelle and Mariel Daniella Sophia from her mother's marriage to Pangilinan; and from her father's various partners: Gabrielle Julia Marie (with Grace Ibuna), Cloie Helena (with Jenny Syquia-Skarne) and Samantha Alexis (with Genevieve Yatco Gonzales).
Bildung
In 2003, she graduated from the International School Manila, and in 2007, graduated with a bachelor's degree in International Corporate Communications with a minor in Theatre Arts from the American University of Paris.
Kabbalah
On 18 January 2010, she attended Yehuda Berg's promotional book tour appearance in Makati[2] with Pinky Amador.[3][4] On the 4 April 2010 episode celebrating her 25th birthday on her mother's tv show Sharon, KC wore a red string Kabbalah bracelet prominently on her left wrist.[5]
Career
Despite several guest appearances in her mother Sharon's concerts and television shows, it was only in 2003 that KC turned to advertising and became a product endorser both on television and in print ads, and an MTV Asia VJ. It was only in recent interviews that she revealed that her mother and stepfather only allowed her to pursue show business after graduating from college.
In 2008, she was appointed by the United Nations World Food Program as National Ambassador Against Hunger, won the Nickelodeon Philippines Kids' Choice Awards for Pinoy Wannabe, and made her acting debut in Maalaala Mo Kaya entitled "Mansyon" that won her praise as an actress. She was then paired with Richard Gutierrez, in the Star Cinema movie For The First Time, that grossed PHP 78,982,290 on its first week making it the highest grossing opening weekend of 2008, however the movie ended up as the 3rd highest grossing Filipino movie of the year with PHP 133,916,349 behind her mother's movie Caregiver and A Very Special Love starring Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz. In 2009, she was again paired with Richard Gutierrez in the movie When I Met U under GMA Films and Regal Films as the fifth movie of the annual Valentine movie of Gutierrez. The movie grossed a total of PHP 164 million making it the highest grossing movie of KC and Richard, as well as GMA and Regal Films.
In 2009, she played the lead in the remake of the hit Koreanovela, Lovers in Paris where she was paired with Piolo Pascual. The teleserye debuted at number 4 in Metro Manila, being beaten by Darna by only 4% . Due to the many people who had not been able to watch the first week's episodes during Typhoon Ondoy, ABS-CBN reran the whole pilot week in a marathon showing last October 3, 2009.
The April 11, 2010 episode of The Buzz revealed that she had been chosen to be the replacement co-host after Ruffa Gutierrez's departure, making her the youngest the show has ever had to date.[6]
She, and both of her parents, are ABS-CBN "Kapamilya Stars".
