Polessky District (Russian: Поле́сский райо́н) is a district (raion) of Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. The district's administrative center is the town of Polessk. District's population: 19,197 (2010 Russian census);[1] 19,018 (2002 Census);[2] 16,911 (1989 Soviet census).[3]
The district is situated in the center of the oblast, with the Curonian Lagoon to the north. The Deyma River, a branch of the Pregolya, runs through the district. Near Polessk, the Polessk Canal connects the Pregolya and Neman Rivers, crossing a bog.
The railway line from Kaliningrad to Sovetsk, and the road Kaliningrad–Guryevsk–Polessk–Bolshakovo lead parallel with the shore of the Curonian Lagoon. Economy is centered around fishery and agriculture.
