Error in Rogier van der Weyden Biography

Hello, user Ceoil. You added to the lede in Rogier's article the following statement:

By 1439 both Rogier and Elisabeth [his wife] had died, evidenced by documents recording the division of their property amongst their children.

This statement cannot be correct, as Rogier is recorded as living until 1464. I do not know how the error arose, but I will be deleting the statement altogether. Nandt1 (talk) 11:15, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello user Nandt. This obviously a typo (or stupidity ahem), glad you spotted it and you were right to delete. I have the source lying around somewhere, will get it sorted. Ceoil sláinte 20:10, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Murasaki Shikibu

I've just lost three really complicated edits because of slow servers, a bad internet connection, something, and am very bad tempered atm. Also have a little trepidation about posting to this always very tidy page. But - I'm trying to set a up gallery and am having trouble. So this is a warning that I might ping you with a help request, and also to help reposition the Murasaki images one more time - almost finished with text. No rush - this weekend, or sometime. In return I offer any help for any page you want. Deal? Truthkeeper (Talk) 21:22, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, deal. Im a bit preoccupied and cranky at the mement so give me a few hours. Ceoil (talk) 21:25, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, whats the word when one county acquires back objects taken by another country, eg Elgin Marbles. Reappration is in my head, but google correction is not helping. Ceoil (talk) 22:02, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Art repatriation? (no idea why this talk page is on my watchlist. Odd.) --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:05, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thats it, thanks Floquenbeam. Yeah its funny what turns up on your watchlist, I'm always horrified when I see an indie band I liked for about 10 minutes in 2007 appear there, like an unwelcome ex. Shudder. Ceoil (talk) 22:12, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Reparations? But I need the context. Actually I think the one above looks right. Truthkeeper (Talk) 22:09, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on this but its going badly; slow, slow work. The context is that it is one of 35 Dürer drawing bought in 1877 by a Berlin museum from French dealers. But thats not the same as reparations, which has heavy political overtones. Maybe they were origionally taken during the Napoleonic era, but prob the German museum was just stocking up; dunno yet. Ceoil (talk) 22:35, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did a quick search but didn't find anything other than what you have. One more database to check but not hopeful. Truthkeeper (Talk) 23:00, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. I dont think I'm going to get more than a stub out of this, which is a pity as I really find the work very moving indeed and would have liked to had more for it. Might be a long project of adding bits and pieces over months, years. Ceoil (talk) 23:11, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Losing work is catching tonight - I saw your edit summary. Do you want to switch for a few minutes and clear your head? I'll go through to fix for you if you'd like. Very much would not want to edit conflict you right now! Truthkeeper (Talk) 00:58, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Work away my friend. I had done a bunch of synthesis of different sources, and thats lost, but I can piece them together agian later. I wont be editing it again till the morning so if you want to work away, work away. Ta. Ceoil (talk) 01:03, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Warning you that I'll work through it now before logging out. So stay away for a few moments. Truthkeeper (Talk) 01:22, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yikes, two warnings in one day. I guess it was that header that attraced our helpful friend above. Ceoil (talk) 04:32, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
tune for a thanks. Ceoil (talk) 04:49, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed this from three days ago - I'm very spacey these days. Thanks, it fits my mood at the moment. I stopped by to thank you for the copyedits to Murasaki - you found all the week spots I was too lazy to fix, and more too. I'm too busy to do much about the page right away, so would be very pleased if you'd finish, and then I'll nominate. I owe you one, or two, or three. Don't forget to cash in. Take care. Oh and almost forgot - I'd like to add this image to the later life section. Do you think the page can take one more image, or am I being too daring, image-wise? Truthkeeper (talk) 02:44, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No such thing as two many PD/old images, far as I'm concerned. Modernist's revamp gives a great template for more additions without cramping the page (it did look cramped before), and Im all for that. O and thanks for your emailed notes on Durer; a very strong reading - I'm going to post to a sandox and tick them off one by one. I was really struggling there with that. Ceoil (talk) 07:31, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It does look better now and less cramped. I think I'll leave it as it is and nom today - prob tonight when I have time. Thanks again for the help. And you're welcome for the Durer notes - it's a complicated file, but full of good stuff. Truthkeeper (talk) 12:56, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, I meant add it, the format now will allow it. I'll continue with my tweaking today, but its in fine form, looking forward to the push, which I have no doubt will succeed. Its by far my favourite of your pages so far, opens up a lot for me. 13:14, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
It's one of my favorite pages too and more to add to the subsidiary pages. I'd appreciate the tweaks - I reach the point where I can't look at a page anymore - I lose all perspective. Truthkeeper (talk) 13:29, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My copy edits dont come cheap, but the IMF guarentee emailed is good enough. Your at the stage now where your in so deep all you see is trees, but thats ok, have read the page a few times and its v good. You need some input sure, but only on finer points. Well done, huge achievement. Ceoil (talk) 13:32, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind paying for copyedits and having you find weaknesses. I have to get into the source about the teaching Chinese, but I think the rest is done. Decided against adding another image - I think it will cramp the page and like it as it is now. For some reason have huge pre-FAC jitters on this, dunno why. Maybe because I don't really know much about 10th century Japan? Truthkeeper (talk) 16:34, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You know enough from your research to write an authoritive page on her, it would seem. Ceoil (talk) 16:37, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Finally!. And thanks so much for the help, and the edits to the diary page - that one is still very messy. Truthkeeper (talk) 01:36, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You'll be fine. I'm not finished tweaking, but they will only be minor bits and pieces anyway. Very glad for you m'lady, very cool work. Ceoil (talk) 01:39, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yomangani raised the issue of whether it's Am Eng or BrE - I'm leaning toward AE to match the quotations - the critics mostly are American. But am not sure because I'm the only editor on the page to use AE and it's easy for me to go to BE. Will decide for sure tomorrow, just wanted you to know. Main page appearance

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on August 22, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 22, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article directors Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:01, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Tbhotch. Ceoil (talk) 18:10, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hold the Front Page

Great to see The Magdalen Reading on the front page. A very elegant piece of work. I recently came across these portraits of Australian criminals [3] and was very impressed, somewhere between Avedon and Deakin in their sensibility. Go n-éiri an bothar leat. Mick gold (talk) 07:38, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stunning. I saw it, great to see it here again, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:42, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. Ceoil (talk) 00:33, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and Mick, Go raibh maith agat, a chara for the pics. Does it make me sad if I think this lass is hot in a dark, mourereous(s) way. Actually don't answear than. Leave me to my dark, mourereous(s) lonely depravity. Ceoil (talk) 13:00, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks,

...that was the most civilized edit war ever! Tom Harrison Talk 18:03, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, fun while it lasted, but glad its over. A draw I think. Ceoil (talk) 18:33, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think small-minded and know-nothing go better with hyphens.[4] Tom Harrison Talk 22:25, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. Im sick of your petty snidness. You never impressed me before, and today took a position from which heaven nor hell would take you away, certainly not reading up or finding out; your only ammo is to wear me down with subtle cutting remarks like the above even when I offered friendship you were still ungracious and snide. I realise you are baiting me at this stage but I'll be gone for a week or so after tonight, so buddy loud and clear, fuck you you know nothing prick. Ceoil (talk) 22:30, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Baile Bhuirne

Left the following reply on the talk page: "This is similar to the Dingle / Daingean issue. The village is in the Gaeltacht. By law, the Irish language name has precedence. Officialy, Ballyvourney is just a local name. To me, the Law trumps local usage." Laurel Lodged (talk) 21:39, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If we take that to it logical conclusion we have a mess, with locals not recogonising the article title of thier home town/village. "Law trumps local usage" sounds to me like the hight of detatched ignorant idealistic bullshit, as does "Baile Bhuirne", take it from one who spent half his young adulthood chasing girls in Ballyvourney; it garrs, and the spelling you have is certainly not mid Cork Irish.
