REPLY to the poster of the message above:

Feel free to insert Futoryanski's opinion (obtained using "the Leninist method" of historical research, as Futroyanski put him himself). But for that you do NOT need to remove
TENS of citations by various sources (even if you don't like them). You should NOT censor the statements by Holoqusit (the phrase on social engineering etc),
to whitewash the deeds of communists.

I recommend you also read the more recent study by Sean O Rourke who worked with archives closely and has better data.
In his book "The Cossakcs" he clearly qualifies the Decossackization as genocide of the people.

Revision as of 01:10, 19 February 2012

The book does not mention Terek Cossacks, but characterizes all Cossacks as perpetrators of pogroms. This is a sweeping generalization. Most pogroms were carried out by the local mobs. Some Cossack units participated in pogroms and some stopped the pogroms. So the reference in the present form is not accurate and contains a huge generalization. Something more balanced about the issue would be more appropriate; it would be good if you could write it.

Decossackization edits

This edit is unhelpful. You are inserting dubious, unreliable sources such as the Black Book of Communism, Rayfield, and others, which do not even focus on the Cossacks. At the same time, you have removed references from the best available sources on the conflict i.e. the work of Professor Futoryansky. What explanation do you have for all of this? Futoryansky, Golub, and Holquist are specialists about this topic, as they have written books and articles about it. Black Book of Communism, Rayfield, and other sources in the article have done no such thing and therefore have no place in the article.
