KHRD (103.1 FM, "Red 103.1 & 93.3") is a commercial radio station in Weaverville, California, broadcasting to the Redding, California, area.
KHRD airs a classic rock music format and is programmed by Don Wilson who also holds the on-air midday shift.
Don Wilson is a Northern California native and brought a successful programming track record to KHRD. Mr. Wilson programmed Active Rock KRQR and Classic Rock WWRE before joing the Results Radio team in Redding, Ca. Dave Tappan left the station to do afternoons on KNCQ (Q97) on March 1, 2010. Don Wilson is now on in the mornings with JD handling news, weather and sports. Eddie Valdez does afternoons from 2:00-6:00.
The station is known for great Classic Rock, fun personalities, entertaining contests and a creative website at www.red1031.com, which also features live 24/7 streaming.
Station features include, The Double Shot Weekend, The Double Shot Lunch, I'm So Smart, Who the bleep said that, Wednesday Morning Album Tracks, The Lost Classic and The Red Rock N Roll Dairy.
KHRD has become a ratings winner under Wilson with high marks in Adults 25 - 54 and in the stations core demographic of Men 25 - 54.
KHRD listeners (who are known as "Red Heads") are passionate about Classic Rock and can be heard on-air and at station events shouting "Red Rocks" as a tribute to their favorite station.
History
KHRD has aired numerous music formats, making attempts at both country music and heavy metal music through the years.
The country station was called B-103.1 and 93.3, and its call letters were KAWX.
In 2006, KHRD went to an "all" Classic Rock format and this has proved to a successful move as ratings and revenue have increased since the format switch.
