Vishnuvardhana is a 2011 Kannada comedy thriller film starring Sudeep, Bhavana Menon and Priyamani in the lead roles . The film has been directed and written by P. Kumar and produced by veteran actor, Dwarakish. The film is supposedly a tribute to Vishnuvardhan who is a friend of Dwarakish. V. Harikrishna has composed the music. The film released on 8 December 2011.[1]

Bangalore Mirror gave four and said it will be one of the biggest hit ever in kannada film indus and a half stars and lauded the debut director P.Kumar and praised its screenplay.It also said movie has all the ingredients of a commercial entertainer.It also praised the performances of Sudeep.[2] Chitraloka website said it is a comedy thriller.And lauded the film saying it has a terrific script which sustains the interest of audience added to these plus point powerful performances by Sudeep and Priyamani.[3] The Times of India gave 4 stars and praised the performances of Sudeep[4]

Release and Box Office

The movie got released in around 140 theatres all over Karnataka.[5] The distributor Kumar MN said that the collection is Rs.6 crores in 3 days. The collection made by the movie has crossed Rs.12 crores before the completion of second week. It is mostly the huge fan following of Vishnuvardhan who have watched the film initially and now it is followed by the Sudeep fans and Vishnuvardhan fans together pouring in to watch the film repeatedly.[6]

Title Controversy

Ever since the movie went on floors with the title Vishnuvardhana, there was a strong opposition against the usage of the title by some of the groups. This opposition was led by Vishnuvardhan's wife, actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan. Dwarakish, along with his associate producer Yogish, struggled hard to fight the accusations. Finally the title has been altered to Veera Vishnuvardhana and again changed to Only Vishnuvardhana.[7][8]

Remake

The movie is inspired by a Korean movie Handphone released in 2009.[9]The movie will be remade in Telugu starring Raviteja in the lead[10] The director of the movie is trying to remake the movie in Tamil as well[11]

V. Harikrishna has composed five songs along with the background score for this film. The audio was formally released on 1 December 2011 and a private radio station the songs were released on the same day.[12] The lyrics are penned by lyricists such as Nagendra Prasad, Kaviraj and Yogaraj Bhat. Ashwini Media works has taken up the audio distribution rights for 36 lakh rupees.[13]
