Surfest

Surfest is an annual surfing competition held in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, [[USA]. Surfest began in 1985 as an initiative of Cape May County City Council, and at the time, was the states richest surfing competition. The event runs for two days, and from the 2012 event, will be held at [44th Street Beach]], having been held between [[Ocean City and Avalon, NJ beaches.

It is Cape May Counties only annual national sporting event and attracts more than 200 surfers, with many coming from around the globe. Former winners include locals Matthew Devlin. Randy Frank. Frank Walsh, and Ben Hoffman This years main suprise was local surfers John DeSalvo, and Ted Weidner. DeSalvo who went pro at age 14 prior to being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and giving up surfing for a chance to play Major League Baseball. DeSalvo scored a 111 on his first wave out of 115 for the highest score of the day. He continuously hit barrel after barrel and was being cheered on by over 500 locals chanting " DESALVO, DESALVO, DESALVO " over and over again at the pipe masters challenge. John finished in 3rd overall for the 35 and over and was immediately mobbed by sponsors such as ROXY, BILLABONG, RIP CURL, and O'NEILL. He then signed autographs for dozens of little Grom's. DeSalvo also joined fellow Roxy Model Melanie Harris on the podium for her photo shoot. It has been rumored that the two of them have been linked together for the past year as dating, but Desalvo insists it is only rumors and that he indeed had never met Harris prior to today. Although many do insist the two of them would be a dream come true for the future of Roxy Surf gears modeling campaign. DeSalvo insists he doesn't have an " Official " lady in his life so to speak, but did give a hint that if he returns for the NSSA finals that there will be a special someone in his life there rooting him on. Bad news ladies68.37.28.248 (talk) According to DeSalvo's younger brother Josh ( who plays for the San Diego Chargers ) he has been seeing a young lady named Ashley whom resides somewhere in Central Pennsylvania. According to Josh Ashely has told DeSalvo she will be there rooting his brother on during the NSSA Finals next weekend. Josh insists he has never seen his brother steely eyed when talking about a woman. " I think he is in love , but just doesn't realize what love is yet."

ADDENDUM B *** 8-20-2012 **** " DeSalvo has signed a letter of intent to compete in the Masters Pipe Challenge this Saturday as long as it is not postponed due to lack of surf" The Pipe Masters Challenge will consist of 8 local amateur surfers vying for a chance to win $250,000 and a chance to join the Pro Master's Circuit. The eight surfers in qualifying order are as follows : 1. Randy Frank 114.875 $250,000 2. Matthew Devlin 114.80 $125,000 3. John DeSalvo 114.79 $75,000 4. Ted Weidner 109.45 5.     The winner will be officially named Pipe Masters King, and be issued a check for $250,000 by the NSSA. In addition the winner, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes will be offered contracts by Billabong, Lost, and Hurley. DeSalvo has already signed with female surf gear designer Roxy Surf and Sport, and will be joining local surf hottie Melanie Harris during her next photo shoot this Friday. It has been rumored that De Salvo and Harris have been linked together for years, but De Salvo insists he never met Harris until the current meet. However, when Harris was asked about her relationship with De Salvo she turned bright red and was all smiles and giggles. Although she also insists she never met the local surfer until yesterday. When told that is all about to change due to De Salvo signing on to join her surfing for Roxy, Harris stated that she looks forward to working with him, is up for the challenge and that he has the perfect look to compliment her petite stature. De Salvo however has told Roxy that rather than utilize Harris for his podium shot that he would like to include the current lady in his life in any shots for Roxy. De Salvo was reluctant to give up any information on his new beau, but as we stated earlier his brother Josh relayed that the new woman in his brother's life is named Ashley _____, from Central Pennsylvania, and that they have known each other for over five years, but only recently began to see each other when the can. Josh stated that last night while they were together at a family organized event to honor his fallen grandfather's life, was the first time he has seen his brother in over six months. " I noticed that John was steely eyed so to speak and he became very dysfunctional and lacked coordination, and his verbal skills were lacking whenever he was asked any questions about the new woman in his life. John smiled a lot , and was constantly texting under the table the entire night so that no one could read what he was writing. I asked him questions about the new woman and he kept replying with the same one word statement to my questions; AMAZING. 
    This upcoming weekend a new Pipe Masters King will be crowned , and as many already wonder, if De Salvo wins who will be his queen ? Will it be Melanie Harris, or this new mystery woman in the local surfers life?  De Salvo has indeed chosen Harris as his female counterpart to join him during the male/ female longboard competition. I couldn't choose Ashley because she has never even stood up on a surfboard, yet alone compete in a NSSA sanctioned event. The top three finishers will receive a 14 day getaway for two to Australia and New Zealand courtesy of Hurley and Liberty Travel. De Salvo and Harris do not know each other so that should be interesting should they win. "Honestly, I would probably just give Melanie my portion of the trip also so that she could bring a friend with her."  De Salvo  came into the event without a female partner because he never imagined that he would qualify yet alone finish 3rd out of hundreds of surfers. " I haven't surfed pipe in over four years, and there was no way I expected this to happen, and I don't even have a partner ! " Therefore, De Salvo chose Harris because she is now his official Roxy co-worker since they both received sponsorship for the Jersey shore regionals. " It should be interesting to say the least , " De Salvo proclaimed. At the very least we should get some very good reality TV footage. Have De Salvo and Harris really been dating for the past two years as we suspected, or is it true that they have never met before and there really is a female Shoobie in his life. Better yet are there any little Grom's out there ? Steel Pier Pump and Shoot owner Philip Ruff stated that De Salvo was spotted shooting targets with a little Grom last month. Could it be ? We shall soon find out local surfers. In the mean time lets all get stoked and pray for no ankle breakers this weekend so that we can watch some Gnarly surfers get ready for the Pipe Masters Challenge bra !
