Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Samoilo (Cyrillic - Самойло, Александр Александрович) (October 23 (November 4) 1869, Moscow - 8 November 1963, Moscow) was a commander in the Imperial Russian Army and Red Army during the First World War and Russian Civil War. He was a Major General on the general staff until 1917 and after the Russian Revolution was made a commander of the Red Army on the eastern front in May 1919. In 1940 he became Lieutenant General of Aviation and in 1943 a professor. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1944 onwards.
