Introduction: Archanah Academy Textile Printing Institution established in the year 1989 is the brainchild of renowned printing technologist Dr R. Baratharaja. Dr. Baratharaja has an experience spanning over 2 decades and has been a pioneer in providing textile printing training to over 6 lakh students all over India and abroad. A majority of these students have gone to make a successful career out of this art form. Dr. R. Baratharaja has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Global Parvasi Malayalee Association in Manchester, U.K. Additionally he has also been awarded several other achievement awards from Germany, Russia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. He has also been awarded with several national awards e.g. the Varnachippi Award from the Lions Club International, Tirunelveli in 1988, the Best Textile Printing Award in New Delhi by the All India Textile Printing Association in 2002 and the Sri Chithira Thirunal Award at Thiruvanathapuram in 2008. He is also a life member of the Screen Printing Association of India (SPAI). Dr. R. Baratharaja has introduced this 2 day textile printing program to people in India and abroad with a view to provide them with an avenue to earn a livelihood of their own through this art form. Training has been provided to college and school students, NGOs, self help groups, charitable institutions, to help broaden their outlook towards this traditional art form. This training has been extremely beneficial to students undergoing fashion designing courses as this type of traditional art form has helped them integrate this art form into their mainstream courses. This has helped several people in expanding their horizons by helping them look at alternative self employment options. We take pride in saying that Archanah Academy has emerged as the leader in the demanding and dynamic printing industry. Our in-house training includes theory along with hands on practical training to help the students to have a firsthand knowledge of the intricacies of textile printing. After attending the 2 day textile printing program, our students are supremely confident in their own abilities of starting their own textile printing units. Our training program is unique in the sense that it needs very little investment and can be learnt by persons in the age group of 6-60 years. We have a well experienced faculty who conduct the courses under the personal guidance of Dr. R. Baratharaja and the syllabus is personally approved by him. Archanah Academy’s fabric printing program is being telecast in various television channels including Star Vijay TV, Kairali Peoples channel, Doordarshan Podhigai Channel (National Tamil language channel), Doordarshan Sapthagiri channel (National Telugu language channel) & Doordarshan Malayalam channel on different days of the week. This program which has garnered impressive TRP ratings is eagerly looked forward to by viewers every week and is watched by people from all walks of life. Dr. R. Baratharaja has also scripted a book on screen printing for which he has been conferred an honorary doctorate from Sri Lanka. Archanah Academy is into commercial printing of saris for reputed clothing stores like Pothys, Karalkada in Trivandrum, Ayappas, Parthas etc. We also have a 15,000 sq feet factory at our Thiruvanathapuram and Chennai offices exclusively to process bulk orders for the export and local markets. In summary, Archanah Academy aims at empowering various sections of the society through their textile printing program.
