The Pheasant Breeding Centre, Berwala (Hindi: तीतर प्रजनन केंद्र, बेरवाला, पंचकुला जिला, हरियाणा, भारत) is a purpose-built centre for the breeding of pheasants situated in Panchkula district in Berwala.

Types of Pheasant Breed

Several types of Pheasants are bred, including Red Junglefowl ( gallus gallus), endangered Cheer pheasant (Catreus wallichii) and endangered Kalij pheasant.

Breeding Program

The population of the Indian Red Junglefowl ( gallus gallus) which is widely seen in the plains of North India and in foothills has been fast depleting due to its large-scale hunting for meat and as a sporting activity. The pheasant was widely accepted as the ancestor of all breeds of domestic chicken.

The bird was once found in abundance in the Shivalik Hills of Morni. The breeding programme of the bird, only of its kind in the state, was started at the Pheasant Breeding Centre, Morni in an old fort of a Nawab of Morni, in 1993 by Forests Department, Haryana . The department has purchased an incubator to hatch the eggs of the birds at the breeding centre. The Centre has program for breeding and releasing the Pheasants in wild.
