The '''men's [[rugby sevens]]''' tournament at the [[2016 Summer Olympics]] will be the first edition of the [[Rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics|rugby sevens event]] for men at the [[Summer Olympics]]. It is scheduled to take place over a six-day period beginning on 6 August, and culminating with the medal finals on 11 August. All games will be played at [[Deodoro Stadium]] in [[Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro]], [[Brazil]].

The twelve teams in the tournament were divided into three pools of four, with each team initially playing [[round-robin tournament|round-robin]] games within their group. Following the completion of the round-robin stage, their will be a knock out stage. The two semi-final winners meet for the gold medal match, while the semi-final losers play in the bronze medal match.

Pool A consists of Fiji, Argentina, USA and Brazil. Brazil men’s team automatically qualified for the event. Qualification began with the [[2014–15 Sevens World Series]], where the 4 teams at the top of the standings qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games. Between June and September 2015, each of the six regional rugby unions held an Olympic qualification event, where one team from each region qualified. The final spot was determined by a repechage tournament.

The men's rugby sevens tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics will be the first edition of the rugby sevens event for men at the Summer Olympics. It is scheduled to take place over a six-day period beginning on 6 August, and culminating with the medal finals on 11 August. All games will be played at Deodoro Stadium in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Competition format

The competition will run August 6–11.[1]

The twelve teams in the tournament were divided into three pools of four, with each team initially playing round-robin games within their group. Following the completion of the round-robin stage, their will be a knock out stage. The two semi-final winners meet for the gold medal match, while the semi-final losers play in the bronze medal match.
