Template:Geobox Woodson is a village in Morgan County, Illinois, United States. The population was 559 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The village was platted on May 2, 1859,[1] and incorporated on April 9, 1894.[2] The village is named after Judge David M. Woodson.[1]

Geography

Woodson is located at 39°37′39″N 90°13′31″W / 39.62750°N 90.22528°W / 39.62750; -90.22528 (39.6274649, -90.2254065),[3] south of Lake Jacksonville and south of combined U.S. Route 36 and Interstate 72. It lies next to State Highway 267. According to the 2010 census, Woodson has a total area of 0.39 square miles (1.01 km2), all land.[4]

As of the census[7] of 2000, there were 559 people, 209 households, and 165 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,442.6 people per square mile (553.4/km²). There were 219 housing units at an average density of 565.2 per square mile (216.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.96% White, 0.72% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.54% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.89% of the population.
