The current hotel is a modern luxury hotel, designed in the style of the original. It was built by Lebanese developer Nabil Boustany, at a cost of $140 million,[3] and opened in 1988[4] by Prince Rainier, Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie as Le Metropole Palace,[5] operated by Conrad Hotels, the international division of Hilton Hotels.[6] In Septemebr 2003, the hotel closed for a major renovation,[7] reopening in July 2004 with its name shortened to Hotel Metropole to match the original hotel. It has 126 guest rooms, including 64 suites.[8]
American television host Mike Bongiorno died there in 2009.[9][10]
