Nicole Grobert is a British-German materials chemist. She is the Professor of Nanomaterials at the Department of Materials in the University of Oxford, and a Royal Society Industry Fellow at Williams Advanced Engineering. She is also a Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford and a visiting professor at the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre at Toyo University, Japan.

Career

As a professor of nanomaterials, Grobert holds a Royal Society University Research Fellowship[1] and has been at the Nanomaterials by Design Group of Corpus Christi College from April 2008.[2] Her research has focused on "synthesis, processing, and characterisation of novel carbon and non-carbon based nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanorods, graphene and other 2D nanomaterials".[3] In collaboration with international industries, her research has helped to develop multifunctional hierarchical nanostructures useful in healthcare, the energy sector and in structural applications.[4] She has been a visiting researcher at Toyo University from 2003, and a visiting professor there from 2007,[2] working at the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre (BNERC).[5] She was in 2016 leader of research of the theme Smart Materials of the International Consortium of Nanotechnologies.[3]

Grobert was a fellow of the Royal Society several times in different fields, awarded a Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship in 2003, University Research fellowships in 2006 and 2011,[1] and a Royal Society Industry Fellowship for collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering in 2016, then the first person to be awarded a fellowship in a third field.[6] She received grants from the European Research Council, in 2009 a starting grant, and in 2011 a proof of concept grant.[4] She has been a speaker at international conferences, such as the Estonian Presidency Research Policy Conference (European Research Excellence – Impact and Value for Society) in Tallinn in 2017.[7]

Awards

Grobert has been a member of international academies.[4] In 2001, she received the Pergamon Prize for her thesis Novel Carbon Nanostructures.[2]
