The 2017–18 Washington Capitals season is the 44th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974.[1] The team won the Metropolitan Division for the third year in a row. After defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Capitals qualified for the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1998 in which they lost in four games to the Detroit Red Wings.
