Isaiah Thomas (basketball, born 1989) → Isaiah Thomas (basketball) – Discussions at Talk:Tony Parker (basketball, born 1993)#Page move brought this article to my attention. Since this Isaiah Thomas spells his name differently than Isiah Thomas, who is the primary topic at Isiah Thomas (disambiguation), there is not really a compelling reason not to place this article at Isaiah Thomas (basketball). Furthermore, Isaiah Thomas (basketball) already redirects to this page. I think there should be a redirect at Isiah Thomas (basketball) to the primary topic (or the disambiguation page). If the redirect is pointed to the primary topic, it could have a hatnote with the following text "Isiah Thomas (basketball) redirects here, for the 2010s professional basketball player see Isaiah Thomas (basketball), for other uses, see Isiah Thomas (disambiguation)." In ictu oculi, In your world, there are probably right and wrong ways to spell names. I don't really think you should start a category Categorry:People who I think misspell their names. On WP, we just view names like Isiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade and Allyson Felix as alternate spellings that are no less acceptable than Stephen vs. Steven, Allen or Allan vs. Alan, Elizabeth vs. Elisabeth or Stephanie vs. Stefanie.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:01, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes "in my world" there is a difference between a variant and a misspelling. The point is anyone looking for either Isaiah Thomas is likely to spell Isaiah correctly. WP:RECOGNIZABILITY, and the former NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame guard is also spelled Isaiah in some sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 22:06, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

In ictu oculi, WP:RECOGNIZABILITY does not appear to make any statements about misspellings or variant spellings. However, can you tell me which of the following pairs/groups are correctly spelled Ann/Anne, Ana/Anna, Derek/Derrick, Kristin/Kristen/Krysten/Krystin, Stephen/Steven, Allen/Allan/Alan, Elizabeth/Elisabeth, Darryl/Derrill (there are actually approximately 27 spellings of Darryl), Stephanie/Stefanie, Gerry/Jerry, Bobby/Bobbie, etc. I imaging that any of them are often misspelled in some sources.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 00:55, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

• Support; the hall-of-famer is probably the primary topic of the two, but either way names with "basketball" in them are a WP:TWODABS situation, and further disambiguation between them is not needed at all. bd2412 T 02:03, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Even if one of the spellings is an uncommon way to spell the name, "Isiah Thomas" and "Isaiah Thomas" are distinct, so there's no reason why we can't have Isiah Thomas (basketball) and Isaiah Thomas (basketball). Hatnotes can take care of any confusion. As an example of variant spellings with the same disambiguation tag, we have two different novels at Catherine (novel) and Katherine (novel). AFAIK, this is the convention when the primary topic and a non-primary topic are in the same domain.
