Welcome to my userpage. My name is Emilio and emijrp is my nickname on the Internet. I'm from Spain and I like the idea of compiling the sum of all human knowledge and its preservation. I joined to English Wikipedia in 2005 collaborating regularly. As of 2019, I have contributed more than 180,000 hand-made edits and over 30 million bot edits to all Wikimedia projects. In Wikipedia, I enjoy creating stubs, lists and programming bots. I'm also active on Wikidata (see userpage) and Wikimedia Commons (see userpage).

My interests include arts, astronomy, cinema, cultural heritage, archives, libraries, museums, digital preservation, politics, reading, travelling, history, photography and many more. I am always discovering new interesting topics.

I am not very fluent in English, so please help me to fix any mistakes in my userpage. Thanks in advance.

You can reach me at emijrp@gmail.com or using this form. Also, you can use my talk page.

Coverage

I work to improve the coverage of Wikipedia and decrease bias. I have started over 4,500 stub articles (list), mostly about municipalities and other geographical entities, monuments and biographies. Also I create pages about archives, libraries and museums in any country. I think that any institution that preserves human knowledge deserves an article in this encyclopedia and thousands of them are still missing. Let's work on it.

Currently, the largest project I'm involved in is an estimate of how many articles are needed to cover the sum of all human knowledge. I wrote the "Wikipedia:There is a deadline" essay about the conservation of cultural heritage and knowledge preservation.

Digital preservation

Because I was tired of seeing dozens of wikis disappearing from the Internet, I founded WikiTeam in 2011, a project to archive wikis. As of January 2019, WikiTeam has preserved over 250,000 wikis, several wikifarms (Wikia, ShoutWiki, Referata, Wikkii, etc), regular Wikipedia dumps and 34 TB of Wikimedia Commons images. We use Internet Archive to upload all the backups and there is an index in WikiApiary.

Lists

I enjoy starting lists. It is an easy way to check completeness on any topic and find red links, candidates for new articles. Following, there is a sample of lists that I have created in these past years. The pages may have evolve later with the contributions of many people (I hope so).

My interests

Eduardo Galeano
Eduardo Galeano
Eduardo Hughes Galeano (September 3, 1940 – April 13, 2015) was a Uruguayan journalist, writer and novelist considered "global soccer's pre-eminent man of letters." His best-known works are Las venas abiertas de América Latina (Open Veins of Latin America, 1971) and Memoria del fuego (Memory of Fire Trilogy, 1982–6). "I'm a writer," the author once said of himself, "obsessed with remembering, with remembering the past of America and above all that of Latin America, intimate land condemned to amnesia."

Fotografie

I am an amateur photographer who likes to take pictures mainly of monuments, museums and landscapes. Currently, I have a Nikon D3100 that produces good results and previously I used several compact cameras. Here are some photo examples, see more in my gallery in Commons (category) and Flickr account (collections and albums).

Also, I like to colorize black and white photos using GIMP.

WikiPapers main page.

I always liked to generate statistics of wikis. In 2010, I created StatMediaWiki, a tool for statistical analysis of MediaWiki wikis. Previously, I had developed dozens of scripts for rankings and charts in the old Toolserver and currently in the new Wikimedia Labs.

Later, I started to read academic publications about Wikipedia and soon I ended with a ton of links to papers. So in 2011, I launched WikiPapers, a compilation of literature regarding these online communities, which currently indexes over 1,800 papers and many datasets and tools.

I have published several papers on wiki research, regarding vandalism, cultural heritage, digital libraries and systematic literature reviews:

Tools

I have created visualization stuff like the Wikimedia projects edit counter, the Wiki Loves Monuments map and its statistics, or recommendation tools like Images for biographies (offline). In 2008, I developed an anti-vandalism bot for Spanish Wikipedia, AVBOT, which has reverted more than 250,000 vandalism edits and has several working clones.

In 2016, I launched Wikiradio tool, a real-time audio service that offers various stations, covering all genres of music and including recordings of Wikipedia articles on different languages, all of which are available on Wikimedia Commons. The Photographer did many valuable contributions to this project.
