The 2019 All-Ireland Under-20 Hurling Championship is the inaugural staging of the All-Ireland Under-20 Championship and the 56th staging overall of a hurling championship for players between the minor and senior grades. Prior to 2019 an All-Ireland Under-21 Championship was held. The championship began on 25 May 2019 and is scheduled to end on 25 August 2019.
Tipperary are the defending champions.[1]
Competition Format
Two of the four provinces – Leinster and Munster – organise provincial championships. Galway are the sole team from Connacht and compete in the Leinster championship. Antrim and Down are the only two teams from Ulster who enter. They meet in a play-off with the winners also competing in the Leinster championship.
The competition has a knockout format except for the Leinster and Munster finals – in the All-Ireland semi-finals the Leinster champions play the Munster beaten finalists and the Munster champions play the Leinster beaten finalists.
