Week of 7 June 2020: an interview regarding the Wikimedia Commons App for Android with maintainer User:Misaochan

For several years, Misaochanhas been the lead maintainer the Wikimedia Commons App for Android. Version 2.13 beta was announced on 26 May.

Thank you for agreeing to interview. For readers who are not familiar with the Commons App for Android, please describe what it does.

How many uploads are there through the app during an average month? Does the volume change during large campaigns such as Wiki Loves Monuments?

Two-column vs full width styles

If you keep the 'normal' preloaded draft and work from there, you will be using the two-column style. This is perfectly fine in most cases and you don't need to do anything. However, every time you have a |fullwidth=no and change it to |fullwidth=yes (or vice-versa), the article will take that style from that point onwards (|fullwidth=yes → full width, |fullwidth=no → two-column). By default, omitting |fullwidth= is the same as putting |fullwidth=no and the article will have two columns after that. Again, this is perfectly fine in most cases, and you don't need to do anything. However, you can also fine-tune which style is used at which point in an article. To switch from two-column → full width style midway in an article, insert {{Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Signpost-block-end-v2}} {{Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Signpost-block-start-v2|fullwidth=yes}} where you want the switch to happen. • Not quite "this month", but the stats for the month of May show that the Hebrew Wikipedia, Farsi Wikipedia, and Turkish Wikipedia all reached new all-time highs in numbers of very-active (100+ edits) editors. • A reminder to be patient with new users. - When is a new user no longer a new user? Just as it is in the world that we learn at our own paces, on Wikipedia some users may grasp this place within 5000 edits, while others, like me may take over 10,000. Whatever the number, we are glad when new users stick around on Wikipedia. I am grateful that Wikipedia continues to attract new editors and that this place has been built to make sure that a small percentage of those new users stay with us.
