Now done! Thank you. The problem was the sfn format was that there should be one p instead of two; which is the all the fault of somebody who should know better:(:(.--A.S. Brown (talk) 00:15, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider your decision? Mr. Fuentes has now received even more media attention and passes WP:BIO. MTV did an entire documentary and I've seen some run-ins with more mainstream conservatives (Jonah Goldberg, Ben Shapiro, Donald Trump Jr.). If not, I plan to submit to deletion review.

Necessary disclaimer: I am not a follower nor sympathizer. But he is almost certainly notable. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:09, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – January 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Arbitration

  • The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
  • Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Bradv, Casliber, David Fuchs, DGG, KrakatoaKatie, Maxim, Newyorkbrad, SoWhy, Worm That Turned, Xeno.

Сретение Господне ("The Meeting of the Lord"), a depiction of Simeon recognising Jesus at the Temple, from a fifteenth-century Novgorodskye School Russian icon.

A Song for Simeon, is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot (1888–1965). It is one of five poems that Eliot contributed to the Ariel poems series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde artist Edward McKnight Kauffer. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the Nunc dimittis, a liturgical prayer for Compline from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes, Dante Alighieri and St. John of the Cross. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism on Eliot's part. (more...)

Quotes
"Faith lived in the incognito is one which is located outside the criticism coming from society, from politics, from history, for the very reason that it has itself the vocation to be a source of criticism. It is faith (lived in the incognito) which triggers the issues for the others, which causes everything seemingly established to be placed in doubt, which drives a wedge into the world of false assurances."

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Miscellaneous

Looking at the delete votes, all (except 1) concern "no references". This was true initially, but then work was done to improve the sourcing (a lot), after which everyone went with Keep (except 1). The question is why the delete votes carried weight once the sourcing was so dramatically improved. The Delete vote that wasn't RS-based, "not suitable for an article" is an assertion without explanation/rationale, but also showing by this stage there was no more debate regarding sourcing. What did you see in the delete votes that gave you pause and thus a no consensus? -- GreenC 03:12, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As you no doubt know, the practical effect of a "No consensus" close is the same as a "Keep". Some of the delete opinions cited other concerns besides sourcing, e.g., did it merit a separate article as a subsidiary of AVIC. Also, I considered that none of the delete voters changed their minds even after the improvements to sourcing were made. With a 5–5 tie !vote, I could not very well conclude that there was a consensus to Keep. Thanks for asking.  JGHowes  talk 04:37, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
NC defaults K, but we weigh on argument strength not counting. A fair close would take into account there was a major change in the article during the AfD, and the delete rationales were accurate when cast: "Lack of WP:RS", "no references at all", "little mention of Jincheng in media..my (admittedly cursory) research", "No place for unsourced articles". But then the article changed significantly. Are you saying that the vote "No place for unsourced articles" is still valid? That "no references at all" is still accurate? They had the option to come back and change their vote rationale, but didn't do so, that is their loss. The one other vote "doesn't merit a separate article" is an opinion, but weak because there is no guideline or policy cited to explain what "merit" means in this context.
I'd like to see Keep because it has some (minor) consequence: 1. For those who voted Keep their AfD statistics are improved, and statistics are often used both for egotistical reasons and for admins judging potentially disruptive AfD voting behavior. 2. NC sends a signal to future AfD attempts because it can be encouragement to try and delete again ie. a close call try again. -- GreenC 02:54, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry you disagree with my No Consensus close. If you still wish to pursue a different outcome, you may appeal at DRV.  JGHowes  talk 12:53, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. Reason fails. No I don't that. Just keep in mind that when articles change radically during an AfD, so does the validity of those votes cast when the article was in an earlier condition. -- GreenC 13:25, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's fair to include Billy Graham's article in a series called Conservatism in the United States. Franklin Graham, sure. As conservative as Billy Graham's theology was, I don't think it's appropriate to claim as a force in conservative political movement. He deliberately ministered to politicians along the spectrum of political thought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjacton (talkcontribs) 03:09, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In looking over the article's recent history, I see that BlueShirtz added the {{Conservatism in the United States}} template on July 10, 2019, without explanation or discussion. Nor does the article itself provide any cites of reliable sources for this claim, other than a passing mention that the "conservative Hearst newspapers" supported Graham's LA crusade back in the 1940s. In fact, one could argue that he was progressive for his time, insisting that crusades in the South be integrated, for example. I urge you to open a discussion about the suitability of this on the article's talk page.  JGHowes  talk 04:01, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zak Smith

Hi JGHowes -- I came across a thread you started on the Zak Smith page and didn't want to resurrect it since it looks to be about three months stale, however, I share your discomfort with the sources being used and have commented on it here on the page of a recently blocked editor who is claiming to be the subject of the BLP. I'm not entirely sure what the solution is here, but this seems to be an endemic problem with BLPs of roleplay game designers. Chetsford (talk) 17:31, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chetsford, I quite agree. For such highly negative BLP content, I'm very skeptical that the refs cited meet our minimum RS requirements and am inclined towards removal of the questionable content.  JGHowes  talk 18:17, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I really like your photos of Harpers Ferry and the Potomac and Shenendoah rivers that is on the Harpers Ferry wiki page. Would you be willing to upload a higher resolution version? That was taken with an Instamatic camera while I was flying a Cessna airplane, and years later scanned from a 4"x3" print, so it's far from today's high-resolution digital photos. I proposed deletion on File:Tom Brown's School Days (1940 film).jpg, which I replaced with a poster in one of the articles. If the tag is left uncontested for more than seven days, the image that you uploaded will be deleted. --George Ho (talk) 04:56, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello George, I have no objection with your replacing one non-free file with another (the movie poster) in the Infobox. But, I think File:Tom Brown's School Days (1940 film).jpg use in Tom Brown's Schooldays arguably meets NFCC#8 because it's specifically discussed in the article's relevant section, "Film, TV and theatrical adaptations". It's in the context of that adaptation's greater character emphasis on Headmaster Thomas Arnold.  JGHowes  talk 13:37, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Since you've contested the PROD tag, I have recently taken the image to Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2020 September 18. By the way, I didn't realize deletion was previously proposed years ago. George Ho (talk) 18:07, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused

Why do you keep re-adding an image whose inclusion I clearly oppose? As far as I'm concerned you are edit warring in a situation where discussion is clearly called for. You've been here too long for that. You certainly have to know that the WP:ONUS for gaining a consensus over new disputed content is on the person wanting it in. I'm going to be removing that picture again, and you'll be starting a discussion on the article talk page to attempt to gain a consensus. Any other course of action will see a report being filed at a noticeboard.  John from Idegon (talk) 18:35, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Richmond High School (Richmond, Indiana); that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. John from Idegon (talk) 19:07, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

John from Idegon Why do you oppose that photo? You do realize that you've violated WP:3RR?  JGHowes  talk 19:13, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Take it to the article talk page. The article doesn't belong to tou. And no I haven't.  You will on your next replacement. John from Idegon (talk) 19:24, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
