Nicole R. Fleetwood is a professor of American Studies and Art History at Rutgers University.[1]

Bildung

Fleetwood received her B.Phil. from the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Miami University of Ohio and her Ph.D. from Stanford University in the Program in Modern Thought and Literature.[2]

Career

Fleetwood interests are "contemporary black diasporic art and visual culture, photography studies, art and public practice, performance studies, gender, and feminist studies, black cultural history, creative nonfiction, prison abolition, carceral studies, and poverty studies."[2]

In 2014, she co-organized “Marking Time: Prison Art and Activism,” a conference and six site exhibition with the Institute for Research on Women at Rutgers. A 44-artist show was exhibited in 2018 at the Aperture Foundation[3] and then in 2020 at the reopened MoMA PS1.[4][5][6][7]
