2021 tennis event results
Rafael Nadal is the four-time defending champion.[ 1]
Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are in contention for the ATP No.1 singles ranking at the beginning of the tournament. Medvedev can attain the ranking by reaching the finals if Djokovic loses in the semifinals. If they meet in the finals, then the winner will clinch number one.
Nadal and Roger Federer will attempt to win a record 21st Grand Slam title and be the outright leader in the men's singles category. Additionally, both Federer and Djokovic are vying to become the first male player to achieve a double career Grand Slam in the Open Era .
This is the first time in Grand Slam history that Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal , the three most successful men's singles Grand Slam champions of all time, were in the same half of the main draw.[ 2] [ 3]
After Dominic Thiem 's first-round defeat, a new French Open finalist, who has not won a Grand Slam previously, will be guaranteed from the bottom half of the draw.
