WorldQuant University

WorldQuant University (WQU) is an accredited not-for-profit university advancing global education with entirely free offerings in data science. It has 10 courses, attended by 1500+ students from 90 countries.[1] It is non-profit tuition-free.[1] It is licensed by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana.[2]

History

WQU was established by Igor Tulchinsky in 2015[1] and is funded by the WorldQuant Foundation.[3] In 2015, when the WorldQuant Foundation launched WorldQuant University, it enrolled several hundred students in a free online master's degree program in Quantitative Finance.[3] Sarah McCue, PhD, conceptualized, led the launch of and served as the first President of WorldQuant University. Daphne Kis was hired as CEO of the WorldQuant University program,[2][4] and the first class was announced to have a 2018 graduation date.[3] In late 2016, the university was awarded the 2016 Dive Award: Startup of the Year by the publication Education Dive.[5] It had enrolled 700 students from 40 countries by June 2017,[4] and was licensed by the Louisiana Board of Regents.[2][4] WQU was accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) in 2021.

Übersicht

The university's stated mission is to advance global education through a tuition-free master's degree program in Financial Engineering.[6] The university does not charge tuition, however students were once recommended to buy course materials for around US$1000.00 over two years, and small fees for two required proctored exams, [7] in the Master of Science in Financial Engineering program but are no longer required to do so.[8] In 2018 WorldQuant University transitioned from a curriculum of 13, 6-week courses and a Capstone Project, to 9, 7-week courses, plus a Capstone Project and Capstone Examination. By 2020, the Capstone courses were combing into a single 10-week course.

Accreditation

WorldQuant University is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), a United States Department of Education authorized accreditor.[9][10] WorldQuant is approved to operate by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana[11]
