Charlie Root

Charlie Root was a baseball player, born: March 17, 1899, Middletown, Ohio, and died November 05, 1970, Hollister, California. He was a right handed pitcher for the Chicago Cubs for sixteen seasons from 1926 to 1941

Root began his career on April 18, 1923 with the Saint Louis Browns. On October 1, 1923, he threw the pitch that Babe Ruth allegedly predicted he would hit into the seats in the 1923 World Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

His best season was in 1927, where he won 26 games and lost 15.

Root's name gives rise to the name used for many "root" system accounts under the UNIX operating system.
