Jonah (song)
- Jonah (song) → Jonah (disambiguation)#Other uses in arts, entertainment, and media (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
It seems to me, based on notability and reliable sourcing, that WP:PLA would have us retarget this to Jonah (Kanye West song). It seems very unlikely that any reader would be looking for disambiguation page about the word "Jonah" when searching for "Johan (song)." There's only one other song and it's from 1987 and it has been averaging less than 10 views/day for over a decade now. ––FormalDude talk 23:42, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- This isn't really an RfD issue; if the Kanye song is the primary topic, it should be moved to Jonah (song) (instead of Jonah (song) redirecting to Jonah (Kanye West song) as you propose) and the venue for that is RM. However, Jonah (song) in that case would be a partially disambiguated title and the standards for that are relatively high, so I'm not sure such an RM would succeed, especially given how recent the Kanye song is. Category:Wikipedians who put really really long redlinked categories at the bottom of their userpage as a conversation piece
- Category:Wikipedians who put really really long redlinked categories at the bottom of their userpage as a conversation piece → Category:Wikipedians who retain deleted categories on their userpages (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
The long title suggests that the category is supposed to remain redlinked, but apparently it isn't. It should never have been recreated as a redirect, and the page was mistakenly undeleted by a former admin "to remove it from the cleanup list at Special:WantedCategories" after it was correctly deleted in 2018. But two other intentionally redlinked categories are also listed there, so the category with the long name should have remained listed there too. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 23:36, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- Keep unless empty. These category redirects were created solely to prevent these stale "joke" redlinked categories cluttering up Special:WantedCategories (SWC), because after the category was deleted some selfish editors raised a storm about removing the categories from their user pages ... so the only way to avoid them becoming a permanent fixture in SWC is to have the redirects.
The selfish disruption of those editors who refuse to remove the categories has wasted countless hours of time in numerous discussions, and this CFD just reopens that timesink. Why?
The two categories which are still listed at SWC were a compromise: leave those two as the last residue of this stale joke, but get all the others out of SWC. Why try to expand the disruption? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:49, 25 December 2021 (UTC) - Ideally, we would establish consensus to actually enforce WP:USERCAT and forcibly remove users from subcategories of Category:Wikipedians who retain deleted categories on their userpages and Category:Wikipedians with unconventional user categories (off-topic: the later of which is technically G4-able per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2013 October 21#Category:Wikipedians by unusual attribute). But that would require a new RfC, since the current statue quo was established at Wikipedia talk:User categories/Archive 1#Request for comment on our proposed policy for users remaining in redlinked categories and can't be done here. Slightly less ideally, JPxG would remove themself from this category and render this discussion moot. If none of the above happen, then there's no good reason to delete this category, especially since the sole member added it when it was already blue. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:55, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- I added myself to this category because I saw it somewhere and thought it was funny. It seemed a little weird to me that it'd be a blue link (surely the joke works better if it is red). As I recall, there were a few others in the category at the time. Anyway, I don't think it is possible for me to care less about this. If you want to delete it, delete it -- if you want to keep it, keep it. Feel free to remove it from my userpage if it is causing an inconvenience, on the sole condition that you add a different stupid joke to replace it. jp×g 06:01, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- @JPxG: either you couldn't care less, or you will remove it only if replaced by another stupid joke category to re-create the same problem. But not both.
- Which is it? BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 03:53, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- I would be fine with something like "a priest and a rabbi walk into a bar, and they both say 'ouch'", but it doesn't make much of a difference to me. My only request is that it not be a political/racial/etc joke, since I prefer my userpage to be a nice place where people can have fun and relax. jp×g 05:54, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- That's rather less funny, unfortunately. Benjamin (talk) 08:25, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

- @Mx. Granger: Per my comment above, anyone who wants to do this can go to my userpage, replace it with another dumb joke, and then C1 the category themselves (no discussion needed). jp×g 14:00, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
Universal ruler
- Universal ruler → World domination (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Unlikely search term for the current target, "universal ruler" is a term that is used in various physical sciences and design fields to refer to measuring-rulers with universal properties ([1], [2], [3]). Even in the context of rulers as in "those who rule", "universal ruler" has been used to refer to various leaders who ruled far less than the whole world (e.g. Henry_VI,_Holy_Roman_Emperor#Universal_ruler, Genghis Khan, Vikramaditya), and it is also a term that can have theological implications beyond world domination (e.g. Chakravarti (Sanskrit term)). In the absence of a suitable redirect target, I think that this redirect should be deleted. signed, Rosguill talk 18:15, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- To the extent that there are multiple possible meanings covered in the encyclopedia, disambiguate. BD2412 T 18:32, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Except these terms are underdeveloped at their respective Wikipedia articles, they briefly mention "universal ruler" but otherwise do not provide much information about the phrase. In such a scenario, internal search results seems more helpful IMO. signed, Rosguill talk 19:41, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. If there is no specific meaning with significant coverage on WP to point to, or set of such possible meanings to disambiguate, defer to search results. Mdewman6 (talk) 21:06, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Delete as ambiguous. A Search reveals 58 other mentions with no common article. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:07, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

- Delete. I would expect the phrase to be discussed somewhere on Wikipedia (Emperor? Universal monarchy? Sovereignty?), but it doesn't appear to be. In the absence of such content, I don't think it would make sense to create a dab page that just lists the various other terms (like Chakravartin or Gurkhan), that have sometimes been translated into English as "universal ruler". – Uanfala (talk) 19:27, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

- Mercator projectoin → Mercator projection (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
The only redirect with this typo for "projection". This typo is handled well by the search engine; this redirect may make it marginally quicker for readers making the typo while searching for Mercator, but it makes it a lot harder for readers who make the typo while searching for all other projections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uanfala (talk • contribs) 15:05, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Template:Chemical infobox
- Template:Chemical infobox → Template:Chembox (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Delete. Unused. Improbable variant name; incorrect variant name—the infobox is not (adjective) 'chemical'. Unused for a reason then, no need to keep non-intuitive name variants. DePiep (talk) 07:12, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Keep. Quite reasonable alternative name for the template, given that it is an infobox used in articles about chemicals. Mdewman6 (talk) 08:36, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- No, the alternative name would be {{Infobox chemical}} (btw, that name is discussed elsewhere ie not available now). wrt 'reasonable', I wrote about in my OP. -DePiep (talk) 08:53, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

- Keep I fail to see what's implausible about this. Putting the word infobox at the end was deemed plausible at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 October 29#Template:French intervention in Mexico infobox (although in that case the nominator was a sockpuppet). * Pppery * it has begun... 04:55, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- Keep If I recall correctly, I created that redirect because I typed Chemical infobox instead of Chembox at least twice when creating pages, then I got confused why the template wasn't working when previewing the page, so I made that redirect so that that substitution wouldn't mess anything up if I made that mistake again then forgot to preview the page. I therefore think that the substitution is reasonable. Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 21:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Fleet (Republic of Singapore Navy)
- Republic of Singapore Navy#Current fleet (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ] →
The "Fleet" consists only of the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 8th flotillas. The "current fleet" terminology on the RSN's page has a broader definition that encompasses all the flotillas. The current redirect is misleading as it does not lead to a specific formation page (like the United States 7th Fleet) and to the generalised term. Seloloving (talk) 00:51, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

- Comment: The page in question is only presently linked in Template:Singapore_Armed_Forces, which lists the operational commands. The template is present at the bottom of the RSN's page, and I am not entirely sure of the value of linking to itself, especially since "Fleet" is a very generic name for a command and unlikely to be googled without context.
