Miss Universe 2022 will be the 71st Miss Universe pageant. Harnaaz Sandhu of India will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Background

Selection of participants

Contestants from 58 countries and territories have been selected to compete in the competition. Eleven of these delegates were appointed to their positions after being a runner-up of their national pageant or being selected through a casting process.

The 2022 edition will see the debut of Bhutan,[1] and the return of Angola, Belize, Indonesia, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Saint Lucia, Seychelles, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay. Seychelles last competed in 1995, which makes it the country's first time to compete after 27 years of withdrawing from Miss Universe.[2] Iraq and Trinidad and Tobago last competed in 2017,[3] Switzerland and Lebanon last competed in 2018,[4] Angola, Mongolia and Saint Lucia last competed in 2019, while the others last competed in 2020.[5][6][7][8][9] Romania will withdraw from the competition for undisclosed reasons.[10]
