Peter Bannister (1939–2008) was an English-born New Zealand botanist and academic.
Academic career
Peter Bannister completed a BSc in botany at the University of Nottingham and a PhD at the University of Aberdeen. Banister's PhD was entitled "The water relations of certain heath plants with reference to their ecological amplitude".[1] water relations of heath plants. This combination of ecology and p was somewhat novel at the time, and taught him to tread carefull narrow line between supervisors in opposing camps. Research on relations, resistance to drought and heat, mineral nutrition and ca economy of heath plants, and the production of a popular introdu physiological plant ecology, continued during lectureships at the of Glasgow and Stirling.
