Russo-Ukrainian War
- 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine
  - A Russian missile strikes a major thermal power station in Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine, causing "quite serious damage", according to governor Svitlana Onyshchuk. (Reuters)
- The United States reports that Iranian troops are on the ground in Crimea assisting the Russian military. (The Hill)
Mahsa Amini protests
- Evidence is revealed that a 17 year old protester, Abolfazl Adinezadeh, was killed in the city of Mashhad by Iranian security forces who fired a shotgun at him at point-blank range. (BBC News)

COVID-19 pandemic in China
- Additional restrictions are put in place as the number of positive COVID-19 cases quadruple in Beijing. (The Guardian)

Law and crime

The Australian Capital Territory decriminalizes the possession of illicit drugs in small quantities, including cocaine, amphetamines and heroin from October 2023. Those caught with illicit drugs for personal use will be fined or referred to drug rehabilitation programs. (The Guardian)
