Michael Benjamin (June 27, 1981 – October 15, 2022), better known as Mikaben, was a Haitian singer, songwriter, and producer.[1][2]

Life and career

Michael Benjamin was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 27 June 1981. He was the son of Haitian singer Lionel Benjamin. He began his career in 1999 in a Christmas contest televised special that was hosted every December called "Konkou Chante Nwel" where he won first place.[3][2]

In 2022, in the midst of a star-studded music career that spanned for over 25+ years with critically acclaimed iconic ballads such as " "Ayiti Se," "Fa Lapri" and "Famm Sa Move" created alongside popular Haitian Music group CARIMI, Mikaben announced and completed filming BEACH CHAIN, his first and only movie ever as the star lead and partial owner. The cult classic movie stars alongside him various high profile Hollywood celebrities such as Hoopz (former fiancé to Shaquelle O'neal & MTV Reality Star), Jeremy Meeks (prison bae), Mathira (Bollywood controversial supermodel) and is Produced/Directed by award winning visionary Haitian filmmaker Ralph Celestin.

Death

On the night of 15–16 October 2022, Benjamin died during a concert at the Accor Arena in Paris. He was 41 years old.[4][5] He suffered a cardiac arrest on stage during his performance. Benjamin succumbed shortly after, despite rescue efforts.[6]
