Vito Chimenti (9 December 1953 – 29 January 2023) was an Italian football player and manager, who played as a striker.
Career
During his club career, Chimenti played as a striker for several Italian teams in Serie A, Serie B and Serie C.[1]
He first played with Avis Edilsport Altamura, then moved on to Matera where he played his first Serie C championship in the 1972–73 season. After a brief season with Lazio, he returned to Serie C first with Lecco, then with Salernitana and again with Matera.
In the 1977–78 season he moved to Palermo in Serie B, where he played two seasons at a high level with 29 goals overall. During the second season, he scored the opening goal for Palermo in the opening minute of the 1978–79 Coppa Italia final, which eventually ended in a 2–1 loss against Juventus. Chimenti went out during at the end of the half time in that match due to a knee injury caused by Antonio Cabrini.[2][3]
He made his Serie A debut on 16 September 1979 after moving to Catanzaro, with whom he would only score once in the league. Subsequently he always moved to the top flight to Pistoiese, where in the 1980–81 season he scored 9 goals which did not prevent the Tuscans from last place in the standings but earned Chimenti the title of best scorer of Pistoiese in Serie A, having been the only one of the orange partnership in the top flight.
In the summer of 1981 he moved to Avellino, where he scored 3 goals.[4] He then chooses to go down a category in the ranks of Taranto first in Serie C1, where he became top scorer of the tournament in the 1982-1983 season with 13 goals, and subsequently in Serie B, where he remains until 1985, when he suffers a 5-year disqualification for the Caso Padova (1985) and the he made his competitive activity ends.
After he retired from playing football, Chimenti became assistant manager.
Style of play
Chimenti was a reliable striker with a good scoring average, he became famous for having often used a particular way of getting up and carrying the ball called bicicletta.[4]

Chimenti died from a heart attack in Pomarico on 29 January 2023, at the age of 69.[6][7]
