Development

The screenplay was co-written by Teddy Lussi-Modeste and Audrey Diwan,[1] inspired by Lussi-Modeste's own experience when he was a school teacher and was wrongfully accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl.[4] The working title was originally Cueillez votre jeunesse,[5][6] and it was later changed to La Plainte,[4] before changing again to Pas de Vague.[6]

François Civil was announced in the lead role on 20 May 2022.[4] On 11 July 2022, it was reported that the project was granted an advance on receipts by the CNC.[7]

The Good Teacher was co-produced by France's Kazak Productions[1] and Belgium's Frakas Productions.[2][3] International sales are handled by the Paris-based company Indie Sales.[1] The first image from the film was unveiled on 9 May 2023.[1] The film will be introduced to buyers at the 2023 Cannes Film Market with an exclusive promo-reel.[1]

Filming

Filming took place in Paris for a total of 35 days between November and December 2022.[2][8]

Release

The film will be released theatrically in France by Ad Vitam in the fall of 2023.[1]
