Digitel is the only GSM network of Venezuela and one of the most innovative telecommunication companies of the country. It provides access to public, fixed and mobile phone systems and the internet; allowing people in the most remote areas of the country to have access to communication and the newest technology, reducing the technological gap. The growth of the company has been maintained and today it counts with more than 3 million clients. Digitel is the only enterprise that presents unique offers, including outstanding cellular phone equipments as well as last generation services, in the market. Furthermore, Digitel has been a pioneer in launching high technology services. Since its origins until now, Digitel has established an invoicing plan in seconds and launched the SMS service. Later, evolved to GSM and MMS (Multimedia Messages Services), based on GPRS technological platform. Working day after day, Digitel in the future will go on surprising the market with the best innovative services for satisfying its customers' needs. Digitel covers the country’s central region, with population coverage of 44%. It achieved gross profits of around USD96 million in 2005, on revenues of around USD325 million. At the end of September 2005, Digicel had over 100,000 GSM subscribers in southern and eastern regions, whilst Infonet had a similar number of users of its GSM network in the western part of the country. May of 2006 marked a new destiny for Digitel, because 100% of the stocks of the company were acquired by the Telvenco group, owened by Mr. Oswaldo Cisneros Fajardo. Thus, Digitel is now the only telecommunication company of the country 100% Venezuelan. The purchase marked an expansion stage because the Digitel coverage extended thanks to the acquisition of two regional companies Digicel and Infonet, located in the east and the West of the country . From the month of July of 2006, a process of expansion of the coverage began, that closed the 2006 with more than 1.070 radio installed bases, 4 new switches in the cities of Barquisimeto, Maracaibo, Táchira, and Caracas and a stretch of the 100% of the GPRS/EDGE network in the West of the country that offers to the clients solutions of communication, data, information and entertainment.
