  • Comment: I found an additional print review from PC Gamer (UK) which I was able to access via PressReader Totalibe (talk) 11:46, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: The game got some pretty solid mentions from Verge and Rock Paper Shotgun, but I think it falls just short of notability. Most sources used appear unreliable. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:19, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

missed messages. is a video game published on itch.io on May 1, 2019 by Angela He, and on Steam on May 21.[1][2] The game is a short free-to-play visual novel with four different endings[3] that explores the themes of depression, suicidality, and family pressure.[4] It was originally developed for a Ludum Dare game jam.[5]

It is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux on Steam or on browser (desktop-only) on itch.io and CrazyGames.[1][6] The game also has a fan pack DLC that includes wallpapers, sketches, and a bonus scene.[7]

Reception

missed messages. has receieved "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam.[2]

The game was featured in The Verge's column Short Play, dedicated to short games, where it was described as "deftly and efficiently [using] its first playthrough to put you in the right emotional space", noting the importance of the game's replay value.[4] It received an 84/100 score in the September 2019 issue of PC Gamer UK, where reviewer Tom Sykes commented, "Mental illness, I think, is one of gaming's favourite topics, but few explore it at surface level, or with as much skill as this lovely visual novel".[8] The game received a positive review from The Game Crater, which described it as "a haunting game [that] also shows that no matter how dark things may seem, there is always hope".[9] Indie Hive described it as "an insightful and heartfelt experience", although noting it had some flaws owing to its short development time.[10]

Writing for Epilogue Gaming, Flora Merigold compared it to experiences of working with young people, describing it as something that "feels like something that so easily maps onto their lives", and as a "vignette of why it’s so important to check in with people".[11] Similarly, Jasmine Ali of GameLuster described it as "a short, sweet, and beautiful game that reminds you to take care of those that you love".[12]
