Ramario Xolo Ramirez (born June 9, 2001),[1] known as Xolo Maridueña[2] (Spanish: [ˈʃolo maɾiˈðweɲa]), is an American actor. His roles include Miguel Diaz in the Netflix series Cobra Kai (2018–present), Victor Graham in the NBC series Parenthood (2012–2015), and Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle in the upcoming superhero film Blue Beetle (2023).
Early life
Maridueña was born in Los Angeles, California. He is of Mexican, Cuban, and Ecuadorian descent.[3] He has four sisters.[4] His first name Ramario is a portmanteau of Ramón and Mario, the names of his maternal uncles.[2]
Career
Maridueña's first professional job was modeling for a Sears catalog.[4] He was 16 when he started acting in Cobra Kai in the main role of Miguel Diaz.[5]
With Jacob Bertrand, Maridueña co-hosts the Lone Lobos podcast, which debuted in September 2021.[6]
He said of his role as Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero to star in a live-action film:[7] "The only thing that is on my mind right now is just the fact that he's Latino. I have so much pride in getting to be a part of this project... I think it's so important, and I don’t want to stand on the soapbox for too long but representation is so important."[8]
Personal life
Maridueña was romantically linked with Hannah Kepple, whom he started dating around 2019.[9] This lasted for about two years and in 2021, the couple broke up.
He is a practitioner of the West African religion Ifá.[10][11]
