Child care benefit is a social security payment which covers (part of) the cost of child care. In some countries these payments are made to the parents, whereas in others the payments are made to the day care provider.

The responsibility for the correct administration of used child care hours, and thus the financial responsibility, can be placed on the parents or the child care provider depending on the country. In the Netherlands this was part of the problems which are known as the Dutch childcare benefits scandal. [1]
