Tren Interoceánico (network)
The Interoceanic Train of the Tehuantepec Isthmus Corridor is a government-owned railway system in Mexico that has 3 lines. It seeks to become a global logistics network focused on the manufacture and movement of goods between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.[1]

The project consists of the renovation of the railroad, which is expected to increase the speed of the freight train from 20 to 70 kilometers per hour (12 to 43 mph), more than three times the current one. Meanwhile, the passenger train will be able to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph).
History
Project
On June 7, 2020, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador began the renovation of railroad tracks and rehabilitation as passenger transport, the work will have an investment of more than 3 billion pesos to start, but that in total it is planned to allocate about 20 billion pesos in this project.[2]
Opening
On September 17, 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated Line Z for freight transport.[3]
On December 22, 2023, passenger service began on Line Z.[4]
Lines and routes
- Line FA: connects Coatzacoalcos with Palenque (future transfer to Tren Maya), with a branch to Dos Bocas.
- Line K: connects Ixtepec with Ciudad Hidalgo, with a connection to the Guatemalan rail network.
- Line Z: connects Coatzacoalcos with Salina Cruz, as well as industrial parks.
Rolling stock
On August 13, 2023, ex-Union Pacific SD70M locomotives were presented that would be used for the train.[5][6]
On August 26, 2023, the Stadler Citylink trains from the former Puebla-Cholula Tourist Train arrived at Coatzacoalcos railway station for use on the train.[7][8]
In addition, the Mexican government bought 12 special wagons (including three Amfleet coaches) from the Railway Excursion Management Company (Railexco).[9] They also bought three British Rail Class 43 locomotives and 11 British Rail Mark 3 coaches, which reached the port of Coatzacoalcos on the ship ARKHANGELSK.[10][11] The purchased HSTs weigh 70.25 tons and 17.79 meters (58 feet) of length each,as well as wagons of 38.18 tons and 23 m (75' 5 1/2 ") in length.[12]
