Forensic examiner?

Is it correct to describe Dr. Priestley as a forensic examiner? As his speciality is mathematics, he would not have the professional requirements for such a position, and in those books which I have read (admittedly by no means all of them) he doesn't examine either the body or the crime scene in the level of detail that would be required.

Any other views on this?
