Appearance
Des destinées de l'âme is a book written by Arsène Houssaye (1814–1896) and published by C. Lévi in Paris in 1879.[1]
It is a philosophical book about the soul. The writer is said to have given the book to a friend. That friend, a doctor, is said to have applied the human skin cover to the book. The skin belonged to a deceased psychiatric patient who was being treated by the doctor.[2]
The book was owned by Ludovic Bouland and has been held at the Harvard Library since 1934.[3]
In 2014 it was discovered the cover of the book was of human skin.[4] After research and criticism since 2014, Harvard University removed the skin cover in 2024.[5]
