Pulang Araw (transl. red sun) is an upcoming Philippine television drama war series to be broadcast by GMA Network. Directed by Dominic Zapata, it stars Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, David Licauco and Dennis Trillo. It is set to premiere on July 29, 2024 on the network's Prime line up.

The series will be streaming online on Netflix.

Premise

Eduardo, Teresita, Adelina and Hirosha will navigate their respective lives in the midst of the war during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.[3]

Production

Development

Pulang Araw was rumored as early as June 2012, as posted on an insider Facebook page Kapuso Archive. Writer Suzette Doctolero confirmed that the concept for the series was first developed in 2013.[15] Following the success of the fantasy historical drama Maria Clara at Ibarra in 2022, Pulang Araw was announced on November 23, 2023, with stars from the said series Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, and David Licauco in the cast.[16]

Filming

Principal photography commenced on December 1, 2023.[17]

Release

The pilot episode of Pulang Araw is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 26, 2024, while its television debut on GMA Network is slated for a July 29, 2024 broadcast.[6]
