1988 Pit Stop Contest
Roberto Guerrero (Granatelli) secured the fourth and final spot in the pit stop contest during preliminaries on held on Thursday May 19. Guerrero (13.791 seconds) advanced ahead of Derek Daly and Dick Simon.
In the final round, Danny Sullivan (Penske Racing) defeated Mario Andretti (Newman/Haas Racing) to win the 12th annual Pit Stop Contest. Sullivan was penalized five seconds for having a tire changer jump over the wall too soon, and Andretti was penalized for using the wrong spec tire. Both teams agreed to re-run the final from scratch. Sullivan prevailed, notching Penske Racing's sixth win in the event.[1][2]
