On 1 July 2024, a Air Europa Boeing 787 Dreamliner operating as Flight 45, flying a scheduled passenger flight from Madrid–Barajas Airport to Carrasco International Airport carrying 325 occupants on board, encountered severe turbulence resulting in 40 injuries and damage to the cabin and broke the ceiling from people hitting it. The aircraft subsequently made an emergency landing at Greater Natal International Airport in Brazil. The aircraft safely landed at Carrasco International Airport the next morning.
