Message from avatar2k re: references

I wanted to let you know that I have started adding references to the Avatar Records page. I have started using footnotes in order to list newspaper articles which verify what has been entered. please forgive my lack of sophistication in entering the footnotes - I don't know how to make the numbers small and elevate them like is typical. I also just listed the references at the bottom of the article - is there a certain way they need to be listed that is in keeping with the wiki format? anything you could do to make them look more professional would be appreciated. I will have more references I can post monday or tuesday when I get to the office and go through our press clippings file in order to substantiate more of the facts in the article. thank you very much in advance.

Are you User:Avatar2k? If so, you shouldn't be editing an article about your own company, per the conflict of interest guideline. RJASE1 Talk 18:55, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Message from avatar2k

Hello RJASE1. thank you for your message on my talk page regarding my potential conflict of interest. The problem that i am experiencing is that an annon poster is trying to trach my company's wiki page by posting untrue, unverified, slanderous, libelous material. This poster wants to intentionally harm our company for his own personal reasons. Reading wikipedia's policy's I learned that posting should conform to the following three things: Verifiability, No original research, Neutral point-of-view.

the poster - who chooses to remain annonymous - cannot verify his allegations, no one else is saying these things (it is indeed original research) and given he is a member of the band in question, is not coming from a neutral point-of-view.

THis poster indeed has valdalised other pages and has been warned (please check out some of his other posts about alleged rascism at Colorado High Schools). I don't think those posts conform to Wiki's guidelines either.

Please help me. how do I protect the Avatar Records page against this single posted bent on slandering us with no verifiable facts - only self serving attacks. thank you very much in advance.

If you have this type of problem again, you can report it here. RJASE1 Talk 18:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello RJASE1 once again. yes, I am Avatar2k. I would gladly stop adding references to the article about my company if there is someway to assure that the annonymous poster stops trashing the Avatar article. I have listed numerous references from "reliable sources" including major newspapers like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Billboard, etc. Unfortunately, the annonymous guy has no verifiable facts from reliable sources. what do you suggest i do? your suggestions are appreciated. thanks, avatar2k.
I'll watch the article and remove unsourced negative allegations as they crop up. If I don't see them, please let me know, or alternatively (for a faster response) post a notice at the admin's noticeboard. RJASE1 Talk 00:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively, you can follow this procedure. RJASE1 Talk 00:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Username block on User:AnAnonymousLogin

Thank you for making a report about AnAnonymousLogin (talk · contribs) at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Unfortunately your report has been removed due to the username not violating policy, or not being blatant enough for a block. Please remember you should only post blatant infringements on this page. Others should be discussed with the user in question first, using the {{UsernameConcern}} template. A request for comment can be filed if the user disagrees that their name is against the username policy, or has continued to edit after you have expressed your concern. I assume that you felt that having Login there was an issue, but I think that the anonymous part in front should be enough to prevent confusion. —WAvegetarian (talk) 09:21, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meh. No big deal, I didn't have any strong feelings about it. RJASE1 Talk 14:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful when nominating articles for speedy deletion as you did with Martin Russell, the article is clearly about a notable subject and deletion is not appropriate here, an administrator had to remove the speedy notice at a later date. Kindest Regards --The Sunshine Man 20:23, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was a one-sentence article with no notability claims or any references at all, but OK. RJASE1 Talk 20:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you moved my report of Wipemypoopybutt at WP:UFA to make it look like you had reported the user originally and I had added further explanation below it, please refrain from doing this (but if it was TW then sorry!), no hard feelings but try to be more careful in the future. Kindest Regards --The Sunshine Man 15:23, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No offense, but why do you feel compelled to continue to leave these messages on my talk page? If you look at the WP:UAA history, you'll see that I reported it at virtually the same time as you, and the reports were merged by bot. And who cares how the report looks? RJASE1 Talk 15:25, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not trying to bring up your faults, just giving you advice. The Sunshine Man 15:32, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but no thanks. RJASE1 Talk 18:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, for the Michael J. Broderick article even though I wrote it there is nothing that is subjective and not citable or quoted in publications. The article is a work in progress and is based on facts. Wikipedia has limited entries on important members of my industry. I request the tags be removed until the article is complete and then action can be taken. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaeljbroderick (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, but have you had a chance to read the policies on autobiography and conflict of interest? You really shouldn't be writing an article about yourself. If you really feel that you meet the notability criteria and an article is needed, you can request an article be written by a neutral party at WP:RA. RJASE1 Talk 13:43, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I have. I also see in the guidelines that it states: "Writing autobiographies is highly discouraged. It is not impossible to write a neutral, verifiable autobiography, and they are not strictly forbidden." I am new at this, and am having trouble attaching the citations to enhance my ethos and validity to be here. Here is another published source from a Chilean newspaper: http://www.diarioeldia.cl/detalle.asp?id=24440&idsec=7

Michaeljbroderick 13:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Broderick, please stop editing your own biography. The reason it's "highly discouraged" is because people who write about themselves on Wikipedia risk looking vain and foolish to the Wikipedia community. I'm sorry, but the language in the article is far from neutral, and most of the information is not verifiable in the sources you list on the talk page. RJASE1 Talk 14:04, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: The Thinkfuture Radio Show entry

I have been listening to this show for the last 2 years and with nearly 500,000 downloads of this show and over 400 episodes, I tried to write the article in the same tone as the other audio podcasts entries in Wikipedia, some of which do not have as large an audience. Please advise as to what I would need to revise in the article to qualify as a Wikipedia entry

Sound Professionals

Hello:

I am trying to comply with the guidelines on this site. Listed under "microphone manufacturers" are many companies that have listings. As an example, look at "Audio Technica"

I originall based on listing on several I say there.....we have company history, products lines, places, etc.....but was told this was not acceptable

So, I changed it to be very basic information, much like the Audio Technica page.

I don't understand how these other listings are acceptable, but ours is not.

Rather than threating us, I would appreciate it if you tell me what the problem is.

Chris Carfagno [email protected]

Chris, no threat intended, but you should not be writing about your own company per guidelines on conflict of interest and spam. However, the article has been repeatedly deleted because the company is apparently not notable enough for inclusion in an encyclopedia. Unless this changes, I don't see your article being included. The fact that other companies have articles is not relevant to this situation - it just means that either they have demonstrated notability or nobody has got around to deleting them yet. If you would like to advertise your company, I would suggest using your own website or purchasing some banner ads. RJASE1 Talk 18:07, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sound Professionals

Hello:

Thanks for the info. I am sure, looking at the other manufacturers listings, that they were indeed created by somone within each company.....that seems obvious to me.

I understand what you have said otherwise and will work toward getting it right. Thanks.

Chris

I'll take a look at that category and see it the spam can be cleaned up, thanks. RJASE1 Talk 18:29, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
