Deepraj, let us create a AssamWikiProject. Bikram98 12:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please add your name at Wikipedia:WikiProject Assam. Chaipau 19:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assam textiles

Hi Deepraj, I just saw your latest additions. Please do look at Assam silk. We need more material there. Chaipau 12:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cuisine of Assam

I think Cuisine of Assam should be categorized under Category:North East Indian cuisine or Category:Cuisine of Assam. Recently we moved away from using "Assamese" for category purposes (using Category:People from Assam instead of Category:Assamese people). If need be, we should move Category:Assamese cuisine to Category:Cuisine of Assam. We should probably coordinate this with User:Bikram98. Chaipau 16:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Cuisine of Assam. I look forward to some more! I have incorporated your additions into the existing text. I am trying to define the cuisine in terms to cooking and food habits principles, and not merely dishes and recipes. Let us discuss this in the talk page, if you so desire. Thanks. Assam Barnstar

Nope, no licensing problems with GFDL. Although i do think a better job can be done in using the map. An outline of Assam will be much more suitable than using the political map-- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:37, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deepraj, let us implement the Assam Barnstar soon. Get other people to give us ideas. It might be a good idea to start giving out some Barnstars soon. Thanks. Chaipau 16:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for your tip Deepraj. However the reason I am using the span> to specify the font size is because otherwise the font size of the Assamese UNICODE is beyond recognition...I am not aware of any other ways to go around the UNICODE font problem! Any suggestions?

References

Yes. I am stopping right now. Was trying it c ing some wiki projects. We need to discuss. Can u help showing the Ref 1, if u r still on.Porikolpok Oxom 08:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is the way we should do it. 1. Cite it n 2 Refer citation in reference. So u get author-last name according to the citation order in citation notes, which u can use to identify the reference, where the authors name r sorted following a descendin order...Porikolpok Oxom 09:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanx. Well, if we use harvard reference n harvard reference templts, we can hv links from citation notes to references (chk note 16 onwards in Kerala), which we cant if we use wiki-citation tmplts...thts wat i understood ..(thr was already an example of Taher, Mohammad note n reference in Assam, i dont know who hs done tht)......neway, i think u hv to use tmplts (for source books, articles, websites, etc) in references. Secondly, using notes to show reference details is not nice what we did earlier (even i did majority). In notes if we r referin a source book or article or a webpage, it should be small, showin only author n year so tht one can find the reference easily.. what is ur opinion?Porikolpok Oxom 10:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
U hv given an example of orchid-reference, mns u r showing the way earlier i made reference to orchid in assam page (citation note no 15), is it tht? majority of the existing citation notes as reference in Assam r created by me only. Or u r refering to the orchids article n its reference?......Porikolpok Oxom 10:47, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
C wat i feel is tht lets use this wiki-tmplt right now n modify the entire stff, ones we r done it will not be difficult for us to shift to harvard tmplt, which will show u direct links from cite-notes to references. Do u hv nething to say?Porikolpok Oxom 11:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thnx a lot. Its a small confusion only. Lemme tell u, thr wr 5/6 notes and 2 references earlier in Assam, few days back. Apart from the 5 notes, i added 1 to 45 notes that u can c (including the orchid note) now. But as per suggestions of Chaipau i started reading the wiki project on citations n saw the templets...i also refered many othr featured articles n understood tht i made a mistake of keeping detailed references of books, journals, websites in the notes....the numbered-list tht u r c ing in reference r notes n the bulleted-list tht u r c ing are references. Wat we need to do is tht we require to develop the note parts as notes n references as references.....mns wen we r citing something tht comes to notes n thn ur notes helps u to find out the reference (details) of it. If u use wiki-citation wat u referred to me it will look like wat i did for note frm 1 to 12 which hv correspondin reference down. In this case one will hv to find out reference of the note by using author's surname tht is thr in the note. But if u use Harvard reference system it provides additional link from citation-note to reference.....mns if u click on note no 16 in Kerala, it will lead u to the relevant reference. So lemme do wat i am doing n ltr we will change it to harvard reference system.Porikolpok Oxom 12:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Font size

Can you explain what you mean when you say unicode makes the characters beyond recognition?

>> Yeah, the font size for Assamese UNICODE is too small. MS-Win comes with Vrinda fonts as default fonts for UNICODE Assamese. The default size is so small that it is difficult to read them.

If I look at http://as.wikipedia.org and http://bpy.wikipedia.org the latter is readable enough although there are other prime examples like http://bn.wikipedia.org where I think the defaults (at least more pleasant sizes) are being used.

>> In the Assamese wikipedia we had to request Bugzilla to increase the default font size in the Universal template of Assamese wikipedia. As for bpy the font size still displayed very small. Unless you have one of the Ekushey fonts as default in your computer MS-Win rendering of default UNICODE size is very small. For more info you might like to talk to User: Bikram98.

For the Assamese wikipedia, Firefox2/1024x768 puts user name etc on the top behind the wiki logo as well as introducing horizontal scrolling. Lot of people use even lower res (800x600) screens and they would be having nightmares. What screen res do you use in your observations?

>> My screen is 1280x760

>> Also could you see the discussion at the Mekhela Chador entry for font problems? Update: Resolved

>> Can you also confirm which of the followings is displayed better:

দীপৰাজ দীপৰাজ দীপৰাজ

>> Also wondering what is the default font for Bengali support on your Firefox browser's TOOLS>>OPTIONS>>CONTENT tab? Priyankoo 18:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO I think it will be more productive if we move this discussion to the Wiki Project Assam! What do you say?

Priyankoo 18:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had tried <big></big> in a few pages, and they work too. The size, as you can see above, is intermediate to the two sizes. Also, it is a relative size. So if a user increases the default font size in his browser, the sizes will still come out okay. Chaipau 18:34, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The modified has the same problem Deepraj, The Assamese font is too too small

Priyankoo 14:56, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can just make the image smaller and leave the span on the Assamese text!!

Assamese calendar

Hi Deepraj, I have seen your wikilink to Bengali calendar from the Bihu article. But it is possible that there existed an Assamese calendar too [3]. I don't have access to an expert on the calendar (maybe an Astrologer?). Do you have any access? It might be worthwhile to look at the origin of the Bhaskarabda era (after Bhaskarvarman from Pragjyotisha) in Assam. Thanks. Chaipau 15:47, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kamakhya photo?

Do you have a photo for the Kamakhya Temple? The current photo gives us no indication it was actually shot at the temple. Chaipau 20:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oxom Xahityo Xobha

Officially Xobha uses 'Asam Sahitya Sabha' since long time.....i blv wen it was considered, x for xo was not very popular..or not thought of popularly...Porikolpok Oxom 18:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dipor bil

I believe it is 'dipor bil' because it is 'dot hroswoeekar' and 'bot hroswoeekar'..wen i pronounce 'beel' in english i hv found tht it really does not become assamese word 'bil'...its very short...just bil...not beel..... majority of the geographical names in assam do not have standard roman expressions.....ones u use it....thn next one starts doin so.......Porikolpok Oxom 18:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
