WikiProject Trains in Japan

DAJF, thank you for joining WikiProject Trains in Japan! Please feel free to improve the project pages as you see fit, and do participate in the discussions. I look forward to working with you on our Project. Cheers, Tangotango 08:19, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Linking dates

Hi. I noticed you had been editing articles to put the links around day/month combinations in order for the date preferences to work. Whenever you do that, it is also a good idea to bracket the year, if it is included. That way, everyone's date prefs will display correctly (1999-12-31, etc, where the preference is to display the year first). Without bracketing the year, some of the advantages built into the software would be lost. I went ahead and added the links to the articles I saw you had worked on recently. Keep up the good work. Neier 12:00, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for the pointer, and thanks for tidying up after me! I'll use the full style in future. DAJF 14:05, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused by your last edit to Joban Line. The line doesn't go to Yoyogi-Uehara Station. Was this comment intended for a different article? Or, did you mean just from Toride to Ueno?? I was going to change it to Ueno, but thought I'd ask in order to be sure. Neier 07:08, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The below is trivial, but in the interest of communicating via a medium other than edit summaries, I'll proceed. I see that you reverted my edit removing 'the', which suggested that maglev trains in general had been ridden by more than 100,000, as you state that the figure applies to these particular trains. To emphasise that distinction, I've amended 'the' to 'these'. I hope you agree that this is more successful, but I'm not concerned if you revert. Cheers, Colonel Tom 12:19, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I didn't know that Ikebukuro was a "terminal" for the Yamanote Line. Do you know where they take the 回送 cars? At Osaki, there is a garage complex just south of the station, but, I don't see anything like that up north on google maps. Neier 01:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There is a depot just north of the station, on the east side of the Saikyo Line. It is also used for stabling Saikyo Line and Narita Express sets. I think Yamanote Line trains only start and stop at Ikebukuro during the morning and evening peaks, but there are also two platforms for each direction, as at Osaki. DAJF 01:54, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dave. Thanks for undoing the vandalism on this article. I have found this user 209.43.33.213 doing more since you un did the last edit. Check the history page out.

Please can you help out warning this person & others about their 'issues'?

Thanks so much. Black Stripe 23:14, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Station categories

Originally, I thought the line cats were a bad idea too. See Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_September_22#Japan_railway_line_categories for my initial impressions. Later discussions on the Japan trains project page also showed a split, and the categories have survived. I'm mostly convinced that they are an acceptable way to categorize the stations now, navigation issues aside.

As long as we have the categories, we may as well make them conform to the rest of Wikipedia's ways. I'm working alphabetically through Category:Lines of East Japan Railway Company. Before I started, it was very inconsistent (some lines had categories, some did not; some lines were already categorized into their eponymous categories, and some were left in the company cat, and some were categorized into both). I've been trying to follow the guidelines, specifically numbers 3 and 5 of the general guidelines on that page. I don't have any strong opinions on #3 in this case. Ignoring it would need to be discussed at the project, so, we can be consistent. It may also need to be discussed on the parent trains project, not just Japan.

Currently, to navigate like you want, it requires another click at the bottom of the line category page, to get to all the lines of JR. Neier 08:32, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if it at least brings consistency to all the various line articles, I suppose it must be a good thing. I realize it is quite a job to edit each page in turn, so keep up the good work. DAJF 13:22, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

This is your last warning.
The next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Tokyo, you will be blocked from editing. --Sasanoha 12:07, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Sasanoha 12:09, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed two copyright images from the Tokyo article. I don't believe that constitutes vandalism. DAJF 12:32, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Sasanoha 11:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reasons for the changes to the Tokyo article have been discussed in Talk:Tokyo and on your Talk page. It would help greatly if you could actually join in the discussion on the relevant talk pages rather than just reverting change without explanation. DAJF 11:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Postscript on requested move - Kenshirō Abe

Hi DAJF. On Talk:Kenshirō Abe You questioned whether my comment, "Abbe is [ ... ] the most widely used version", was unwittingly. My intention was merely to indicate that that was the only valid argument. Giving the many other with the same surname, all transliterated Abe, that is not a strong argument. —Leo Laursen ( T | C ) 07:57, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sasanoha 03:55, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Sasanoha 03:58, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--DAJF 04:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--Sasanoha 05:06, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

September 2007

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from Chikage Oogi. Please be careful when editing pages and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Is a a reason for removing half the links on that page? Delta40[talk] 10:14, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The edits I made to that article were all intentional. The links removed were all for individual years, which do not require linking in this article. Please note that your reversion also deleted other edits, such as the addition of macrons. I have therefore undone your edit. --DAJF

Contradictory

Hello. The image of the article that I edited is reduced. However you are not reducing a huge image of Akihabara. Your action is inconsistencies. --Sasanoha 07:26, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No inconsistency. Read WP:MOS#Images. --DAJF 08:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High speed train records

Hello, it is after a long absence. Do you remember it? You hold out as ever.--218.221.134.23 15:16, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry, I don't understand your comment, but as I wrote on your Talk page, please check the dates of speed records before adding new ones. Many of those you added were out-of-sequence, and therefore don't belong here. Thanks. --DAJF 15:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--218.221.134.23 15:26, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--218.221.135.13 13:03, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Macrons

Since Shinzo Abe wrote his own name with macrons, the macrons should be left out of his name. This applies to other modern day Japanese politicians: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shinzo_Abe&diff=158604416&oldid=158244387 WhisperToMe 23:14, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, sorry if I stepped on your toes with the warning, and thanks for fixing my typo. I really should look into this "preview" button I keep hearing about. --barneca (talk) 15:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. No need to apologize. Thanks for going ahead and adding the warning, as that user did seem to be getting a bit out of control. --DAJF 15:51, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on your edits

I appreciate your recent edits on the pages I've created or edited. But how would you feel if you create an article, and later some parts in the article are deleted without any specific reasons? In the article Susukino, for instance, you just wrote "Tidy up superfluous spaces and unnecessary year links", but did not provide any reasons why you deleted some points. I understand year links are not needed, and the image was rather big, except only the reason why you deleted some. I admire that you are fluent in both English and Japanese, while I'm afraid that I feel sorry about your lack of concern.

Plus, I know you are enthusiastic about defaulting thumbnails, but what makes you rush to delete size specifications of thumb images? All the users might not specify thumb sizes if they agree with the way you are. I acknowledged that the size of thumbnails in Susukino were slightly larger to make reading difficult, but sizes around 230px may not be too harmful for the readers. Please consider thumbnails sometimes are essence to the articles, and readers who do not have accounts on the Wikipedia and cannot change preferences exist. Incidentally, I'm dismayed that thumbnails I've added were worth reducing, while others in some articles such as Torre España and Jardin du Luxembourg remain bigger size. I expect you to give me some reasons of above, but if you do not have any response to provide, just ignore this comment.--Daigaku2051 01:26, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for your feedback. Sorry if my edits to the Susukino article seemed harsh. The WP:MOS#Images section recommends that pixel size should not be specified for image thumbnails, which is why I removed the size specifications on this page. As you probably know, this allows users to decide for themselves what size thumbnails are displayed, to suit the size of their PC screen etc. If you see large images on other pages, then you should consider using the default thumbnail size for them as recommended in the WP:MOS. Anyway, please keep up the good work! --DAJF 01:41, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for your answer. I may continue submitting articles with a thumbnail in around 220px sizes sometimes when I consider the layout or essence under Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Images, but I swear always be careful not to magnify the size of thumbnails too much, since I respect your way and WP:MOS#Images. For the English vocabulary I have won't definitely be enough to complete worthy articles, I will thank if you keep copyediting articles that I edit or create. That may satisfy enough for all the readers and users to read! Regards --Daigaku2051 20:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technically...

Users removing warnings from their talk page is not considered vandalism. It's frowned upon but it's the user's decision. - Penwhale | Blast him / Follow his steps 00:37, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I wasn't entirely sure of the situation regarding users' own talk pages. Thanks for the clarification. --DAJF 00:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tokyo

I have never edited the Tokyo article so I may be a neutral party. I am interested in Tokyo. If you have a dispute with User:Cosc, I would be happy to informally try to help you reach a solution. Just let me know. Archtransit 23:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Err, thanks. I don't have a dispute with any particular editors on Wikipedia, although I have reverted a lot of edits made by User:Cosc to the Tokyo article recently, as they either degraded the quality of the article and/or went against the general consensus. Issues regarding the article and possible changes are currently being discussed on the article's talk page, so that would be the best place to contribute if you have any ideas or suggestions. --DAJF 08:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Let me know if you ever want a neutral person to help in any disputes. Otherwise, I'll just read the Tokyo article and enjoy. Archtransit 01:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yamanote Halloween Train

While I do not condone the event at all, it is definitely a relevant occurrence. How about we try to fix the poorly put-together article rather than speedily delete it? professorsteve —Preceding comment was added at 08:38, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Osaka Loop Line

Thanx for reverting to my edit, removing the party. It is never suitable for wikipedia, I'm sure. I did not notice the revert of IP user.--Maxima m 00:28, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tokyo Tower

--Sasao 04:40, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--DAJF 06:03, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--Sasao 07:34, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
