Richard Vissing (born 1919, died 1987) is a deceased former mayor of Jeffersonville, Indiana which served five terms from 1963-1983 and was the first full-time mayor.[1] During his terms as mayor was credited for helping revitalize the city and added parks to the city such as Vissing Park which is now named after him. One of the notable accomplishments was the purchasing of original Jeffersonville's Ken Ellis Center (A Community Shelter) during the 1970's which was origionally a tavern, in 2004 the origional building was destroyed by a tornado.[2]
