Mount Hood Golf Club is an 18 hole golf club and located in Melrose, Massachusetts. It was built in the thirties and over the years has been upgraded to offer a better playing experience.

Beginnings

Mount Hood was built on land donated to the city and once contained a small ski resort credited with having the first ski jump in New England. The parks winter role has now ceased to exist, but the footings of the jump and the motor house for the old rope tow still remain. During the summer, the park transformed into a golf course.

Current Conditions

Since the closing of the ski resort, Mount Hood has functioned as both a park and a golf course. Its various hiking and biking trails offer a relaxing get away from the busy city life and the park also contains a tot lot for children. There are also several ponds where ice skating and fishing are allowed.

The Golf Course

Mount Hood golf course offers challenge and variety unique in the Boston area. It is in the midst of a wooded 300 acre park 10 miles from the Zakim Bridge offering grand views of nearby Boston, Revere Beach and the almost untouched wilderness. Generous fairways, smallish greens and natural topography make Mount Hood a legacy of the classic era of golf design. Notable of the course is that eight of the 18 tees are dramatically elevated allowing soaring tee shots as well as commanding views from Boston to New Hampshire.[1]
