English Medium Schools

There is no reference made by the ministry of education regrading a category of schools called English Medium Schools there is however a category called English Medium International Schools which refers to International Schools. Therefore there is no special category called English Medium Schools prepping students for local exams. However several major national schools provide education in all three mediums (Shinhala, Tamil, English).

"In addition to the Government Schools there are 33 non-fee-levying Assisted Private Schools and 33 fee levying autonomous Private Schools. There is another category of English Medium International Schools approved and registered by the Board of Investments Sri Lanka. The number of international schools which are not controlled by the MOE has increased recently in urban areas."[1]
