Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (born 1939) is the supreme leader of Iran. He studied Islamic philosophy and became a teacher in it. He was a key figure in the Islamic revolution and was President of Iran from 1981 to 1989. After Ruhollah Khomeini died, he was elected supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts.
